Volga Company acknowledges the importance of maintaining the ecology in the region and therefore makes environmental protection an integral part of its everyday activities.
In pursuit of this commitment, over the past 10 years, the Mill has reduced its water consumption and discharge, while total contaminant loads have been reduced by a factor of 12!
Volga's high environmental responsibility is recognized at the international level. The Mill has been awarded the highest "ECO-A+" ecological rating by Russian environmental management experts.
Today, all the bark wastes generated during the Mill's operations are recycled into energy in a powerful boiler, and the ash resulting from the incineration process poses no threat to the environment.
In addition to solving the waste disposal problem and thus contributing to the environmental well-being in the district, the boiler adds to Volga;s in-house steam generation capacity and provides about 50% of the Mill's total steam requirement.
The boiler project brought Volga honours in the National Ecological Award in 2007.
In 2014 the Mill improved the ash handling system at the boiler plant, where a new water-filled ash conveyor was installed to provide easy and safe ash disposal. Now that the boiler ash is quenched with water in the conveyor, it does not present a hazard during transportation or storage.
